Beverley Morris was a younger brother of Francis Morris, the famous ornithologist. 'A collection of accounts of British game birds, with a statement of the distribution and habits of the species and descriptions of the birds, their eggs and nests, and notes on their value as articles of food. Most of the forms treated are figured on the hand-coloured plates (wood-engravings), made by B. Fawcett, who also printed the work' (Anker).
First edition. 4to., 60 engraved plates with fine original hand-colouring, contemporary brown morocco gilt extra, covers with large gilt arabesque within fancy gilt borders, spines in six compartements, gilt lettered direct to second, others others richly gilt within gilt frames, raised bands, all edges gilt, light foxing to initial blank and last leaf, a fine copy.
