Robert Wemyss Symonds (1889-1958), trained as an architect and consequetnly was, for a while, in partnership with Robert Lutyens, son of Sir Edwin Lutyens, before becoming the pre-eminent 20th century scholar and authority on English Furniture. Symonds was also a collector and designer of furniture, as well as an extensive writer on the subject.

First edition; 4to; numerous tissue-guarded photographic illustrations; publisher's cloth boards gilt titled, bumped and rubbed at extremites, fading to spine and upper board, otherwise good and internally fine.
